Where does the word ‘jeans’ come from?

It’s derived from two words describing a type of fabric that was made in Genoa, Italy called fustian.

The word jeans

Genoa in old French is Jannes, in modern French is Gênes.  Check out this site for more about the history of jeans and the derivation of the word.
